Dear Colleagues,

The State Library, in conjunction with the Statewide Database Advisory Committee, has made their decisions regarding statewide online resources for the coming year (July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014). We wish to greatly thank LibraryLinkNJ Executive Director Cheryl O’Connor for her invaluable assistance with the vendor negotiations.

This year’s committee had a difficult job, as less funding was available for this program due to flat state allocations and a reduction in the federal allocation due to sequestration. Regardless, each library constituency (colleges and universities, K-12 schools, public libraries, special libraries and the State Library) was given consideration in the evaluation process.

The spreadsheets listing the resources available for FY14 will be located on the State Library’s web site effective July 5, 2013. Please note that in instances where the State Library is no longer financially able to license premium Ebsco products we have agreed to pay Ebsco for access to all the same products through July 31, 2013. During the month of July Cheryl O’Connor has graciously offered to work closely with Ebsco to put together database discount offers that will be available for those libraries who wish to continue top-tier access to one or more Ebsco resources.

The only change in online access that you and your patrons will see beginning July 1, 2013 is the loss of RefUSA’s One Source.

It is also important to note that the subsidy the State Library has been paying ProQuest for the past two years in order to provide the state’s libraries with a discounted subscription to Heritage Quest will no longer be in place for FY14.
