The Department of Education and Early Development, Division of Libraries, Archives & Museums, Alaska State Library, Library Development Unit seeks applications for the position of Public Library and Continuing Education Coordinator (Librarian
III).
This position is part of the Library Development team, which offers consultation services, grants administration and planning, and continuing education for Alaska libraries of all types.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• offering consultative services to librarians and local governments in the establishment and administration of public libraries including organization, collections, facilities, equipment, personnel, financial management, support
services, telecommunications, library automation, and grant-writing. This consultation may be in person or through distance communication.
• establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with library directors and their governing administration or boards.
• visiting libraries to evaluate policies, collections, facilities, programs, services, and administration. Analyzes problems and strengths and prepares written reports including observations and recommendations to governing
bodies or administrators.
• as a speaker, instructor, or coordinator, promoting library staff development by planning and conducting workshops, seminars, training sessions, and formal university credit courses.
• coordinating and disseminating information for continuing education and graduate library studies.
• offering public and combined school/community libraries in person or distance delivery workshops for library staff or library boards and offering training events to communities when appropriate.
• reviewing and disseminating information about developments, trends, and issues for public libraries.
• cooperating and planning with the Alaska State Museum and Alaska State Archives development staff to provide coordinated multi-agency educational opportunities.
• as part of the Library Development team, participating in planning, goal-setting, and policy determination for State Library services to libraries.
• working as part of the library management team to plan, develop, and implement policies and procedures for Library Development projects including, but not limited to, Interlibrary Loan, Books by Mail Services ,the Public
Library Assistance program, the Alaska Library Network, the Alaska OWL (Online with Library) training programs, and others.
• representing the Alaska State Library in statewide and national meetings and advisory committees for professional associations, academic programs, and federal grants, where relevant.
• acting as the liaison to the Alaska Library Association for its continuing education and scholarship committees.
• writing and managing continuing education and training grants and disseminating information to Alaska libraries of all types.
• performing Reference Desk duties at the Alaska State Library as scheduled.

• Experience working in a public library setting which required independent responsibility for multiple areas of library work such as technical services, reference services, circulation, collection acquisition, development and
maintenance, public programming, library webpage services, or other relevant public library responsibilities
• Ability to work independently in providing consultation service
• Ability and willingness to travel within the state of Alaska, occasionally to remote sites via small, fixed-wing aircraft or other non-standard means of transportation
• Ability to serve as a team member and work collaboratively with fellow team members and partner agencies
• Ability to communicate well in person, in writing, and over the phone
• Experience communicating via audioconference, videoconference, or webinar
• Experience planning and creating presentations or continuing education opportunities for large and small groups using standard presentation software and webinar resources
• Experience writing clear and coherent reports or grant applications
