This is a compelling opportunity to create a physical and virtual space to support and enhance this new school’s program of inquiry-based and problem-centered curriculum, applied research, online learning, global and cultural studies, and leadership development. The position calls for strategic leadership and initiative, library management experience, and a commitment to education and research. 

The mission of the Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science is to ignite a passion for inquiry, innovation and investigation that will instill a compassionate commitment to enrich the quality of life in school, community and country and make an enduring difference to our world. 

The Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science will open in September 2013 and is actively seeking applications for this full-time position. 

Founding Library Director Goals
  • Create a teaching and learning resource center that meets and anticipates the needs of this unique environment.
  • Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to design and implement units of instruction and to assess student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the library is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.


Roles and Responsibilities 
Leadership and Implementation 
  • Through communication with the school administration, carry out the planning, staffing, furnishing, and implementation necessary to set up an outstanding library and resource center, including a dynamic online presence.
  • Develop the library structure ensuring that the major functions of print and electronic collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, resource access and management, interlibrary loan, reference and instruction are fully operational and integrated.
  • Hire, supervise, lead, and evaluate a committed library team.
  • Manage the library budget and maintain qualitative and quantitative data for regular reporting and resource evaluation.
  • Create an environment that is welcoming and accessible to all students, staff, and faculty and conducive to learning and collaboration.
  • Develop and foster external partnerships with state and area libraries, consortia, library systems and organizations for resource sharing, professional development, and community building.
  • Promote and publicize library programs, resources, and special events, focusing on their relevance to academic and school programs.
  • Implement measures for the continuous improvement of library resources and services and to align library goals and objectives with those of the school.
  • Take an active role in the school’s mission, contributing to strategic working groups, special projects, and committees.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for library staff and stay current in professional practices and developments, and information and learning technologies.


Instruction and Development of Research Skills 

  • As an instructional partner, work with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources.
  • Participate in curriculum development to integrate research and information literacy skills into course offerings and to ensure that the library has sufficient resources to support associated student research.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate research and evaluation skills and foster critical thinking.
  • Implement and promote existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
  • Understand copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assist users with their understanding and observance of these issues.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • ALA-accredited MLS.
  • At least 5 years progressive experience as a librarian with administrative, supervisory, and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated, successful experience in project management and collaborative initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and proficiency in online searching, research strategies, and library instruction.
  • Experience and interest in an academic/school environment.
  • Positive and strong customer focus.
  • Knowledge of current library and information technologies, emerging trends, standards, and practices in librarianship.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially in a changing and fast- paced environment.


Salary and Benefits: Salary and benefits have intentionally been set above both public and private schools in the reason and are based on the candidate’s education and experience. Faculty who hold National Board Certification or obtain it while they are employed at PRISMS will receive an additional salary adjustment. An adjustment is also made for faculty upon publication of original work in scholarly journals or comparable venues. The Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science offers a generous comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, a prescription drug plan and retirement benefits. One hundred percent of single health insurance is covered, and 90% of family insurance is covered. A limited amount of faculty housing is also available for both single and married staff.
