Dear Colleagues,
The New Jersey Office of Information Technology (OIT) has launched a statewide broadband mapping project to find out where to focus efforts to increase broadband access in our state. To this end they have asked for the assistance of the
library community to populate this map with information about what sort of broadband access offering libraries in New Jersey provide to their communities. If your library is part of JerseyConnect or LMXAC, you are already included in the map.
To prepare you for the survey I have included a copy of the questions the survey asks so you can gather the information before you log into the survey at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NJCAISurvey. Please only fill out the online survey, do not fill out the attached PDF and send it to me. If you have any questions please contact William Drew of NJ Office
of Information Technology at William.Drew@PROTECTED.
Below is OIT’s original message on this subject.
Message from NJ Office of Information Technology
The New Jersey Office of Information Technology - state and local government's computing and telecommunications resource - needs your help in an effort to improve broadband availability in the Garden State.
Working with federal and local officials, OIT is mapping publicly available broadband offerings. OIT needs your help to ensure that it has accurate data. So far, New Jersey lags other states in collecting this information. (See chart below.)
By August 23, OIT staff would like to dramatically improve that ranking.
Would you please provide the type of broadband service (e.g., fiber, cable, etc.) you have at your organization? OIT also needs to know the down speed and up speed to which you have subscribed. (Example: Goodtown's Library subscribes to
cable service from Comcast with 15 Mbps of download speed and 3 Mbps of upload speed.)
* For Individual Libraries: Individual libraries can submit their broadband data by taking our on-line survey at: Broadband Information Gathering Questionnaire<
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NJCAISurvey >
* For Consortium or Cooperatives: Organizations serving several library constituents can forward data in any convenient form or format to
William.Drew@PROTECTED
The information will be used as part of State Broadband Initiative (SBI), a program run by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. The NTIA is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
See our website http://connectingnj.state.nj.us/ for more information on the SBI grant and NJ OIT program. Please let me know if you have any questions. My phone number is (609) 777-2650
Thank you in advance for your support in this effort to expand broadband availability in New Jersey.
Sincerely,
William Drew, PMP
