Title: Librarian – Reference & Teen Services
Employer: Collingswood Public Library, Collingswood, NJ
Schedule: 20 hours per week, includes evenings and weekend rotation We are seeking applicants for our newly created Reference & Teen Services Librarian position.
Our new colleague will have responsibilities in two general areas:
1. Coordinating programming for teens, including: organizing, publicizing, and staffing programs and activities focused on education and enrichment for teens in Collingswood
and Woodlynne; establishing and staffing a teen advisory board and other clubs of interest to teens; working with the Head of Youth Services to ensure that the young adult collection meets teens’ interests and needs; assessing and evaluating initiatives for
their effectiveness and impact in the community, and adjusting them accordingly.
2. Providing excellent reference services when working at the reference desk, including:
assisting our neighbors and visitors with their computing needs; responding to reference questions; teaching library resource use; providing reader’s advisory; making
purchasing and weeding decisions in order to ensure the library’s adult nonfiction and reference collection addresses our neighbors’ interests and needs; supporting other departments when needed.
Qualifications:
· Masters in Library or Information Science from an ALA‐accredited
program; · New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate (must be obtained prior to beginning work at the library); · Thorough understanding of teens’ unique needs and of trends in secondary education; · Proven project management, troubleshooting, and problem
resolution skills; · Knowledge of the principles and practices of public library functions; · Demonstrated ability to give engaging public presentations and lead effective meetings; · Proficiency in teaching new skills to a broad range of learners; · Excellent
written communication skills; · Record of maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues and the general public.
