ALA Midwinter 2014 Youth Participation Application

The YALSA Local Arrangements committee for ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia January 24-28, 2014 is recruiting youth participants to give feedback on nominated books at the Best Fiction for Young Adults Teen Session on Saturday, January 25, 2014 (a list of titles can be found here: http://www.ala.org/yalsa/bfya-nominations).

Participation will require teens (ages 12-18) to speak in front of an audience of the committee, publisher representatives, and conference attendees. Participation will begin with a tour of the exhibition halls in the morning (starting at 9am), where teens will get to visit with publisher representatives, and likely (although we cannot guarantee it) receive ARCs. Teens will have time for lunch, and the Teen Feedback Session runs from 1:00-3:30.

YALSA takes input from youth very seriously, and in order to get a wide representative of area youth, we are seeking a max of 50 teens to visit and participate in ALA Midwinter 2014.

YALSA Goals for Youth Participation:
1. To organize and implement youth participation to support division goals,
2. To collect a wide range of ideas from as diverse a young adult population as possible,
3. To incorporate youth participation into programs and services in order to provide a richer experience for YALSA members,
4. To create valuable experiences for the participating young adults in which they can gain knowledge and/or skills useful in future endeavors.

All expenses, other than registration for Saturday, January 25, 2013, are the responsibility of the group.

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS DECEMBER 10, 2013. Notification will be made by December 20, 2013.
