I am writing about a great place to find outreach programs for this summer, and every summer, and beyond! The place is called Flatrock Brook Nature Center and they are located in Englewood, NJ (believe it or not)! If you were not aware of them, they offer reasonably priced, educational programs for all ages. They were here last year for Dig into Reading and the kids had a blast learning about rocks and then painting their faces with the "paint" derived from the rocks. This year, we will have their Scaly or Slimy reptile/amphibian program and the kids will get to touch the animals.
The person to speak with there is Jill Bennetta, she is the Education Director and she is fantastic! She can adapt pretty much any program for your age group. For our program this year she will work with my 2-5 year olds and then 6 and older separately. Her programs are hands-on and interactive. She also uses live specimens where applicable. There is a great variety of programs and she will travel anywhere in NJ. There is a travel fee in addition to your program fee, and they do ask for payment ahead of time but they are very easy to work with.
