Subject: Call for presenters - 2014 Youth Services Forum

Hello library friends! Please excuse cross-postings.

Planning has begun for this year's Youth Services Forum!  My name is Emily Moore, and I'm the  Head of Youth Services at the Voorhees Branch of the Camden County Library System.

The Youth Services Forum is a day of hot topics and issues in library services to children and young adults, sponsored by the New Jersey Library Association and the State Library of New Jersey.  This year's Forum will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at the Monroe Township Public Library.   I've been working with Sharon Rawlins and an awesome Planning Committee to begin to put together a wonderful schedule of presentations. It's time for us to flesh out our ideas and bring them to life with presenters - you!

If you haven’t attended in the past, take a look at last year’s info: http://www.njla.org/content/youth-services-forum  You can see what programs were offered if you click on the registration form pdf.

We are currently looking for anyone who would be interested in presenting on the following topics:

Focus on preschool and elementary-aged children:

·  Story Time Shake-Up: including (but not limited to) guerilla story time, family story times, adding dance parties or sensory elements to story times, sharing resources

·  Uncommon Core: above and beyond the titles/projects listed in state guidelines

·  Unprogramming / Self-Directed programming for Children (interactive displays and the like)

·  Baby Brain Science & Development

·  Kid-directed STEM and STEAM programming

Focus on tweens and teens:

·  Controlled Chaos: Rules, Respect, Teens, and Staff

·  Engaging Older Teens: how to get more then just tweens

·  Teen Advisory Board Regional Summits

Multiple ages:

·  Non-traditional Holiday Programming (beyond Christmas - lesser known holidays or programming that includes a mix of holidays)

·  Family Programming: programming for multiple ages, possibly working between departments to provide the programming

·  Programs for Children with Special Needs (not focusing just on Autism). Can include formal programming, volunteering, or other services

·  Home Schooling and the Library - looking for librarians who do home school programming and also home school families to be available for questions

It may seem daunting to present to a room full of peers, but the Youth Services Forum is a great place to start! It's a fulfilling experience that not only broadens your ties to youth services staff in the state but strengthens your resume.  Also, we are envisioning most of our offerings to be a panel of speakers so you most likely will not be presenting alone. It's also just a perfect chance to show off the wonderful work you've been doing!  Please contact me if you're interested in presenting on any of these topics.

Thanks for being your wonderful selves! Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me if you're interested in presenting or have any questions. Thanks so much for your time!!
