FYI,

Two items of interest to public librarians that are being sent out for informational purposes only and are not endorsed by the State Library:

Driving-Tests.org, is a website for learner drivers. In addition to being the largest and most visited independent online driver education provider in the U.S., they currently work with over 650 U.S. libraries (including 19 in NJ) in a partnership where they provide libraries free access to their state-specific practice tests (free for the library and the patrons).

They are extending the same free driver's ed. program to all NJ libraries.

Are you looking for new ways to engage children, teens, and families?

LOOK NO FURTHER!

Mutt-i-grees in the Library is an innovative program that provides librarians with plans, strategies, and materials to actively engage children and teens by using activities, crafts, and books about shelter animals (Mutt-i-grees) to teach essential social and emotional skills. Participating libraries may select from a range of different activities that are easily integrated into existing library programming and include

  • Service learning ideas for children and teens
  • Ideas for contests, clubs, summer reading challenges, and special events that raise awareness of shelter animals
  • Suggestions for hands-on activities, including crafts and yoga
  • Opportunities for family involvement, community connections, and school-library collaboration

If you are interested in learning more about Mutt-i-grees, we will be offering a professional development seminar in New Jersey this month. And thanks to the generous support of The Karma Foundation, librarians in Union, Somerset, Mercer, and Middlesex counties are eligible for complimentary registration and refreshments.
