Hi, Teen Librarians!

I need your help ASAP!

Do you get questions from young people (ages 12 – 18) related to mental health issues? Not just for reports, but questions that you think they might be asking because they need the answers for themselves. Any issues in response to Hurricane Sandy, such as stress related to being displaced from their homes, etc. would be an example. Or, teens with academic stress, etc.

The State Library’s applying for a grant to offer mental health first aid trainings for youth services librarians in public and school libraries to help you identify and help young people who may have mental health issues, addictions or who are in crisis. To support my grant request, I need to include statistical evidence that you do get requests for assistance regarding mental health issues from teens.

If anyone does get questions from teens regarding any type of mental health issue, can you email me directly at sraw...@njstatelib.org and give me an estimate of how many you might get in a month/year? And, if possible, what is the nature of the request, i.e. addiction, stress, etc.

Thank you so much! I appreciate any assistance I can get.

Best,
