The East Brunswick Public Library, located in Middlesex County, is seeking an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic candidate for the position of Assistant Library
Director. Our busy Library is home to a diverse population of approximately 47,000. This senior management position requires proven experience in supervision, technology, customer service, financial and people skills. The successful candidate needs to be
a person who is comfortable with multi-tasking. The position is fully in-charge of the Library in the Director’s absence which includes supervising the entire staff as well as working directly with the Board of Trustees and Township Officials.
Essential functions: The Assistant Library Director manages
the day-to-day operations of the public library; supervises the passport supervisor and the accounting clerk; acts as the facilities planning manager and supervises maintenance personnel; coordinates work with the Library Director and participates in planning
and budgeting; prepares reports.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: The Assistant Library Director
must have:
comprehensive knowledge of:

Public library principles, methods, materials and practices;
·
Current library management practices and planning; and
·
Current trends in technology
knowledge of:
·
building facilities methods and practices;
·
hazards and safety precautions associated with typical repairs and maintenance
·
methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair;
·
New Jersey Public contract law, applicable building codes, inspection requirements;
the ability to:
·
communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing;
·
Mentor staff and build teams;
·
Participate in local, county, regional, statewide or nationwide planning for library services;
·
Attend conferences, meetings, workshops, seminars and courses related to duties;
·
Participate in consortium committees, travel to conferences and workshops;
·
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with library customers, colleagues and the general public.
Education and experience: The ideal candidate will be versed
in facilities management and have a strong interest or background in management of a library. A Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school and considerable public library experience, including three to five years supervisory
experience is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of technology is expected.
Special requirements: The Assistant Library Director must
possess a certificate as a Librarian issued by the State of New Jersey.
Conditions of work: The Assistant Library Director performs
sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. The work requires reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing
or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; and visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work,
and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Annual Salary: $79,400 minimum depending on experience
