Not counting shelving (which I do have some volunteers doing) we mostly do "specific tasks" (i.e. assigned job for a set amount of time) in the summer.   For those occuring during the year (for instance, we have students who package holds for delivery every day, and a few who check av items labeled "damaged" to decipher if they work or are indeed not functioning); I advertise them on my job blog (my normal procedure) with a specific start and end time.  Once someone is selected, they know what they are expected to do and for how long.

Summer requires lots of extra jobs, but it's the same principle...they know when they are starting, which jobs they are selected for (if they are selected) and when it ends.  I like having the specifics known to all (although with many rotating tasks, I have learned to note the dates or I forget).

Good luck with everything, I don't know how you'll manage to find hours while undergoing renovations; but I'm sure you'll figure it out (because you are awesome).

Hello NJYAC world

Any of you that have a teen volunteer program, do you have a system where the teens sign up to work on specific tasks in the library?  If so, how do you do it?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  We are almost at the end of the school year, hours are due, and we’re in the middle of a renovation of our Children’s Department, so tasks are limited.  Also thinking ahead to doing something like this for the summer and new school year.
