Please forgive the cross-posting. 


I know that several libraries have therapy dog programs. We have had one since 2007, and were always successful at replacing the dogs who retired.

This year is the exception: We had one dog retire in December 2015 and another one move to Pennsylvania in March 2016, and so far have not been able to find a replacement.


Our program is held for one hour on a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evening or on a Sunday afternoon (these times have proven to be best for our community).

The children make an appointment to read for 15 minutes with the dog and its owner (parents may watch through our glass wall). We only have one dog visit at a time, and there is usually a little time for a "meet and greet" with anyone in the children's room before or after the program. Most of our dogs have volunteered to visit two hours per month, but we are flexible.


If you have a therapy dog program at your library in the Middlesex/Somerset/Union/Mercer county areas, would you be willing to share our information and contact info with the owners? The best way to contact me is via email, but calling is fine, too.
