The New Jersey State Library (NJSL) and LibraryLinkNJ (LLNJ) are pleased to announce the
Mobile Mini-Makerspace Kits for Public and School Library Partners grant opportunity.
Through this competitive grant program, NJSL and LLNJ will help fund three mobile mini-makerspace kits for joint use by a
partnering public library/branch and public school library (Kindergarten - Grade 8) at a maximum amount of $7,500 per award in communities with a population of less than 15,000.
With this funding opportunity, the NJSL and LLNJ seek to support science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM)-based learning in both informal
and formal learning environments, to foster cooperative relationships between partnering public and school libraries on the local level, and to leverage available funding for specialized equipment, supplies, and materials. This funding opportunity seeks to
spark the imagination of the students; serve to broaden the curriculum development, as well as strengthen their engagement in the learning process.
The focus of this initiative is on small communities, (current population of less than 15,000) in an effort to strengthen the connection between a public library/branch
and a public school library while reinforcing their shared role of providing school, student, and community support. At the time of application, neither the public library/branch nor the public school library may have an extant mobile mini-makerspace kit nor
have a dedicated makerspace.
Applicant libraries (one public/branch library as the lead applicant), with the partnering public school library, will be required to develop programming and
curriculum ideas for the mobile mini-makerspace kit and provide a plan for the logistics of their joint use of the mobile mini-makerspace kit.
The application deadline is November 1, 2016. The complete grant guidelines and application are available
on the New Jersey State Library’s website here:
