FYI,

All children’s librarians or public library staff working with young children are invited to attend a free training led by early literacy consultant Saroj Ghoting entitled: Science and Math for Everyone! Exploring Science and Math Concepts Through Storytimes on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. This all-day training (9 am – 4:30 pm) will be held at the Bridgewater Library branch of the Somerset County Library System, 1 Vogt Drive., Bridgewater, NJ 08807.

After participating in this training, you will be able to:

·         Identify how science and math concepts support STEM education and early literacy

·         Identify how they support common core and early learning standards

·         Identify how traditional storytimes can support these concepts

·         Learn how to help adults incorporate them into daily conversations and activities with their young children

·         Gain an understanding of scientific and mathematical thinking of newborns to children age five

·         Build on traditional storytimes to explore strategies and techniques to support science, math and early literacy

Date & Time: Tuesday, September 27, 2016, 9 am – 4:30 pm

(breakfast and snacks will be provided, lunch is on your own)

*** Please bring a written storytime plan and the actual books you use with you to the training. The storytime should be a traditional storytime, not one with a science or math theme/topic. If you do not do storytimes, please bring two books that preschoolers would enjoy.

Space is limited to 50 attendees. Register here for this free early literacy training for public library staff

The program is sponsored by the NJ State Library. If you have questions, please contact Sharon Rawlins, Youth Services Specialist, NJ State Library, sraw...@njstatelib.org, 609-278-2640 ext. 116.
