South Brunswick Public Library
Teen Librarian/Part time position/20 hours per week
The South Brunswick Public Library is looking for a creative, self-motivated part-time librarian or graduate student enrolled in an ALA accredited library program, to join our library team.  The ideal candidate, under the direction of the Supervising Teen Librarian, will help develop and implement quality teen programming and assist with collection development.  In addition, this individual will be required to perform a variety of professional duties at the Information Desk including reference assistance and readers’ advisory for both teens and adults. 
This job requires Sunday availability and flexibility with evening hours to accommodate teen programming and desk hours.  Monday evening availability is strongly preferred.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and implement teen programs under the direction of the Supervising Teen librarian
  • Provide Readers’ Advisory services and prepare Readers’ Advisory tools
  • Maintain collection of YA material through weeding and purchasing recommendations
  • Provide reference assistance for both teens and adults
  • Staff both the Information Services Desk and the Young Adult Room on a regular basis
  • Advise and assist library users in the use of library services and tools
  • Advise and assist in the supervision and training of large number of teen volunteers
  • Assist with the collection development of adult nonfiction collection as needed
Requirements:
  • Positive, pro-active attitude and ability to provide outstanding customer service
  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and NJ Public Library Certification or enrollment in a graduate level program from an ALA accredited institution
  • General knowledge of Young Adult literature
  • Some experience with YA programming preferred
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to assist with  YA library programs
  • Ability/willingness to develop a good rapport with teens to identify their needs and interests
  • Familiarity with technology and social media and the ability to adapt to changes in technology
  • Speak, write and communicate in English effectively
  • Sunday and evening hours required
  • Knowledge of SIRSI/Workflows a plus
 
Salary:
2017 starting salary for an Information Assistant (no library degree) is $17.97/hour
2017 starting salary for Librarian is $27.81/hour
