Dear Colleagues,
I would like to alert you to a project on the role of libraries in promoting community health currently being conducted by researchers at Rutgers University. I encourage you to participate, if at all possible. Here are the details:
We, at Rutgers University Center for State Health Policy, are seeking your participation in a study documenting uses of public space in libraries for health-related activities. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the project is designed to illuminate the potential role of libraries in promoting health and wellbeing in the communities they serve. We are seeking the following information on all uses of public spaces in the library and its branches – whether for library-sponsored or outside activities – for January, 2017-June, 2017:
We would like this information in whatever form it’s available – electronically on a spreadsheet, scanned, copied – as long as it is comprehensive. We may be able to provide staff-time to assist in assembling it if that would be helpful. No information is requested on individual names of people who are applying for use or attending the sessions.
We will categorize the different types of health-related activities, among all uses of library space, along with their frequency and numbers of participants. We believe that this approach will capture a unique view of the current and potential role of libraries in promoting a culture of health in their communities.
A few libraries had been contacted over the past few months and shared valuable data with us. Please note we are not asking for them to resubmit what has already been provided.
To participate or to get more information, please contact: Michelle Kennedy at mkennedy@PROTECTED or (848)932-4687.
