The New Jersey State Library and the New Jersey Library Association are working diligently with regional Census officials to help ensure that you have the information that you need to assist your customers when the census opens in the Spring of 2020.
At this time we are working on scheduling training sessions for library and computer consortia in New Jersey, to be followed by contacts with county library systems. There is also a wonderful LibGuide created by Teri Taylor of the State Library Information Center on the State Library’s website: https://libguides.njstatelib.org/2020CensusResources
The state has so much to gain with a complete count, especially in the area of the Grants to States program run by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Population is one of the factors in their grants to states, so an accurate count is essential to New Jersey potentially gaining much needed funds for needs of the state’s libraries.
I hope that you also received notice of the ALA grants to libraries for census activities posted by our Marketing Director Tiffany McClary on the LLNJ Forum under fund-raising on November 6. And, the Marketing Department will also be posting Census news on our e-newsletter NJSL Direct.
Attached to this email is the table of Census contacts by county *for use by library staff only*. Census officials have asked that we not share these staff member names or contact information with the public directly, it is for library staff use only.

Thank you all for taking on yet another task that benefits our cities, state and nation.
