Hello all,
Our reference dept received the following email - just sending out in case any one of you have any ideas regarding the book the patron is inquiring about.
Here is the request:

I am writing to you about a book I read as a child, some 60+ years ago! This book made a lasting impression on me, but I unfortunately cannot remember the title or the author.

The reason this book came to mind after so many years was an experience I had as a child which I shared with a friend:

"I read a story as a child about a man who sort of smuggled an Afghan puppy out of (Afghanastan?). I loved the drawings in the book and thought this dog to be so magical. I had never seen anything like it.
One day I was outside playing (I guess I was about 8 years old) and I saw what I thought was a vision.. an Afghan Hound. I ran over and really gushed over the dog. Was it really true? This beautiful dog really existed? The man walking the dog was visiting his family who lived on my street. I guess my exuberance and teary eyes overwhelmed him, so he let me walk his dog ..for hours.. and I was really in heaven. Her name was Aurora and was almost as tall as I was. I will never forget her. Just wish I can remember the name of the book I read.   We are going back to the 1950s."

So now I am wondering if this children’s story rings a bell among any of the older librarians?  It was not a thick book, and if I remember correctly the illustrations were line drawings. Another book I read about the  time was called Buckle Horse - which might help to give you a timeframe.

I do not know if it is at all possible for the library to search this title or storyline. When I google I only get a the What a Mess series  from the 1970s. Definitely not this. My story is a suspenseful and a bit sad too, fortunately with a happy ending.

Any help the library could give me in locating the title and author - and maybe even the book itself would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone for your time,
Jane
