HI Sharon,

I wanted to reach out and let you know about a virtual program available for summer 2021. This year's CSLP summer reading theme, Tails and Tales, could not be more fitting for The Whalemobile!

The Tale of the Tail of a Humpback Whale

Have you ever seen, the tail of a whale?

The black and white patterns beneath the tail.

Every humpback’s pattern is unique

And to many it looks like Ancient Greek.

But for scientists, we tell them apart

And many of them have stolen our hearts

Meet Nile, my favorite, join me and see

How fascinating humpback whales can be.

This 1-hour virtual program will be a tale about one of my favorite humpback whales--Nile. She was born in 1987, and I have seen her almost every year that I have been whale watching since 1994! I'll share why she is my favorite, how scientists study humpbacks (by the patterns on their tails), and what we have learned. We will also "virtually" go inside my life-sized inflatable model of Nile to learn about how humans and whales are similar! I have materials for parents to follow up with their children to figure out what they can do, wherever they live, to help protect whales.

Details

  • Who: Up to 20 screens at a time because I make it as interactive as we can. (I like to be able to answer all the questions the students have.)
  • How Long: One hour
  • Ages: Going into 1st grade or higher
  • Cost: $165 for the first group and $140 for each additional group.
  • Pre and post visit activities available on my website.

“I want to start by thanking you for a great presentation last night. You were fun, engaging, and informative. The photos included were beautiful, and you did a wonderful job making the graphs and charts easy to follow.” Becky Vitkauskas, Richard Salter Storrs Library, Longmeadow, MA

For more information or to book a program, visit my website or email me at ...@thewhalemobile.com" style="color: #2199e8; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.3; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: left; text-decoration: none;">i...@thewhalemobile.com.

Please feel free to share with anyone who might be interested—I’m hoping to reach children in all 50 states this year. I appreciate your assistance is helping me cultivate the next generation of ocean advocates.

Sincerely,

Cynde
