DESCRIPTION
The Children’s Services Department at the County Library seeks an enthusiastic, service oriented and self-motivated librarian to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service ethos and demonstrate knowledge of print and online resources, reader’s advisory and solid technology skills. The individual must exhibit strong communication skills, a desire to do community outreach and provide services to children, teens, caregivers and educators. Other examples of duties:
- Design and implement creative youth programming to facilitate a love of reading and learning including story times for children ages birth-six years as well as crafts and other activities for children of all ages.
- Participate in outreach efforts, working closely with the school services librarian and other organizations to promote library resources, programs and services.
- Participate in the Summer Reading Program, One Thousand Books Before Kindergarten and corresponding activities.
- Participate in collection maintenance tasks, including evaluating materials.
- Provide outstanding customer service, reference, and readers’ advisory to all library customers.
- Participate in professional conferences, seminars, and committees; read professional literature; attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: A master’s degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.
License: Obtain a valid NJ license as a Professional Librarian within six (6) months of appointment.
Schedule: Full time, 37.5 hours; evenings and weekends. Flexibility a must for outreach events.
