November 1st is National Family Literacy Day and the start of National Family Literacy Month. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics global databases, and a study of youth 15 to 24 from 1986 to 2016, the youth literacy rate increased from 83 percent to 91 percent globally over those two decades. Regional and gender disparities remain, though, with literacy lowest in the least developed countries and higher among males than females. The link above has a list of literacy organizations with helpful information, resources, and volunteer opportunities.
November 13th is World Kindness Day. Penguin Random House is providing a free Wonder kit if you sign up by today (Oct. 31st). Here’s the link: http://www.rhteacherslibrarians.com/latest-buzz/celebrate-world-kindness-day-2018-with-wonder/?ref=PRHC61F5D7118
