90-Second Newbery Award Film Festival Founder Would Like to Present at Your Public or School Library or Classroom

I would like to invite you to host the founder of the 90-Second Newbery Award Film Festival at your public or school library in the Fall. James Kennedy, the founder of the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival, is happy to visit in-person with the youth you work with (ages 9-18) to encourage them to create their own 90-second film that recreates the plot of a Newbery Award winning book in just 90-seconds. This is good opportunity to combine literature/literacy and creativity as a project for public and school libraries to work on together or school library media specialists with the English or Language Arts staff in your schools. The NJ State Library is sponsoring Mr. Kennedy’s in-person visits to public and school libraries at no cost to you.

He will also show some videos that youth have created from previous years’ Festivals. Visit the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival website for the deadline for youth to submit their videos and more information about the Festival.

If you are interested in having Mr. Kennedy come to your public or school library or classroom to talk with youth about creating their own videos and to share videos from past Festivals with them, please fill out this survey. Please try to complete it by September 19, 2022. Mr. Kennedy is NOT available to come on Oct. 7th-12th or Oct. 24th.

Any videos that the youth create will be shown at an in-person film festival in the spring. The location has yet to be determined but we are hoping for a Saturday evening on May 6th, 13th, or 20th.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!

Thanks.

~Sharon
