FW: Books for Kids donations

November 12th 2010

Hi everyone, If you are planning to send a box of donated books to the Newark Public Library, can we please request that you wait until December or even January to send the boxes. We are in the midst of a federal grant-funded renovation and it would be much easier for us to receive the donated books later rather than now. Thank you so much for your consideration and cooperation. Re: Eagle Scout project

November 4th 2010

About 2 years ago one of our "regulars" who had volunteered for many summers with us was going for her GS Gold award, and she asked to hold it at the library. I agreed to let her host a sleepover in the library, and in addition to me she arranged for a few other adults to chaperone. It started at 4 p.m. on a Saturday and was over after breakfast on Sunday morning. She called it "The Pen is Mightier than the Sword: Writing for Social Justice" and she provided fiction, non-fiction and poetry writing w ...Continue Reading

Re: Eagle Scout project

November 4th 2010

We have had numerous projects with eagle scout and girl scout gold awards. We've allowed the library as a drop off location for prom dresses, food, winter clothes, supplies for animal shelters, etc. This year one girl organized a summer tutoring program with high school and elementary students. Another did a 2 week environmental program for children. Eagle Scout project

November 3rd 2010

We have a teen volunteer that would like to do his Eagle Scout project with the library. The project needs to involve some kind of leadership or teaching. I was wondering if anyone has ever had their library be involved with an Eagle Scout project. If so, I would appreciate any information you could provide me by emailing me off of the list. Thank you!
