Thank you so much for the information. I was told that some grant writers work "on spec" as it were. I have written the federal library grant for 2 years with an administrator who was a Math teacher. We obviously didn't get the grant and the comments were very harsh. Neither of us know the "grantese" that is appropriate. There is not enough time to do the appropriate research this year, but I will share your information with our superintendent. Again thank you ...Continue Reading

I feel obliged to write about this request. I am a grant writer, on staff at Newark Public Library. Before I was offered a staff position, I did some freelance grant writing for the Library and for other cultural organizations, as part of a consulting practice I had. If you want to hire someone to do some work for your library, such as giving a public program, would you tell the speaker that their fee is based on attendance at the program? No, of course you wouldn’t. When you hire a grant writer to prepare ...Continue Reading

Sally, The way I understand it, the state library wants you to use that software to keep track of SR stats. If you do not use it to submit your stats, you will not get the free banner and bookmarks that they usually send you every year. There is going to be a workshop about it at NJLA on Wednesday at 11ish. Sharon sent out an email on NJYAC with the link for the program to register your library. She is also trying to get some more workshops set up - possibly in May. Hope this helps! Janet Dunn Children's Librarian W ...Continue Reading

Hi Sally – Sharon Rawlins announced at the Summer workshops that the State Library has said that they will be collecting all summer statistics through Evanced solutions. It doesn’t mean they you can’t use paper reading logs – or any other method you want in your library. It DOES mean that you will need to use Evanced Solutions to get your statistics to the State Library. (In the past you filled out a form on Survey Monkey.) Sharon is suggesting that it will be easier if libraries use Evanced Solution ...Continue Reading

Hi Sally, Sharon Rawlins has sent out several messages on NJYAC about signing up for Evanced Solutions throughout the year. The website to sign up is : http://www.evancedsolutions.com/njsrform.asp A reminder was given out at the workshop because it will be the only way to submit your statistics to the sate this summer. This program has set this up for NJ libraries for the next 3 years. Today we had a great discussion amongst libraries who have paid for this program in the past - it was extremely positive.
