Re: Animal book series from 1950's

March 6th 2010

I did show him the Burgess books and clothes were the issue.  Although he is certain the animals did not wear clothing, he is beginning to question his memory, as we all do.  He is certain about the woodchuck, might have been a hawk too.  What he liked most about the series is the way each book led to the next one by way of animal introductions.   I will keep you posted if we find the right series!   Michaele Casey Bernardsville Library ----- Original Message ----- *From:* ...Continue Reading

I wondered about Burgess too, but some characters wore clothes.  I know the woodchuck was Johnny Chuck, but he had clothes . http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&resnum=0&q=johnny%20chuck%20burgess&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi They were originally published earlier, but were heavily reprinted in the 1950’s.  They were like young chapter books, designed for read-aloud bedtime reading, or reading alone later on.  Very popular for years. Golden Books did a lot of animal stories back th ...Continue Reading

Animal book series from 1950's

March 5th 2010

I have a patron who remembers reading a series of books with animal characters when he was 8-10 years old.  He believes the books would have been published around the 1950s.  The books contained illustrations, although he cannot remember whether they were color or b/w. The books were not picture books but more like beginning readers.  The animals behaved as animals except they could talk and do people-like activities.  He is certain they did not wear clothing.  When I showed him boo ...Continue Reading

Incentives order with Upstart resolved

March 3rd 2010

Please excuse any cross-postings. Hi Everyone, I’ve resolved the mix-up in the public libraries’ summer reading program’s incentives order with Upstart. Public libraries are just starting the receive their materials. I ordered a children’s banner, a children’s poster, a teen poster (if your library wanted it), 1 package of teen bookmarks and 2 packages of children’s bookmarks for each public library but Upstart accidently ordered 2 packages of flip flop necklaces instead of the children’s bookmarks. Luckily, the flip ...Continue Reading

Re: NJ SUMMER READING WORKSHOPS-

March 3rd 2010

Hey Sharon, It's Jamey Feuer from Edgewater. I'm sorry to bother you, but I was ill... then went on vacation, then we had the snowstorm of the century, and have been juggling school... all at once. In the interim, I found myself unable to register for the Summer Reading Programs. I wanted to register yesterday but I had my "Read Across America" program at the local Elementary School. And, naturally, I find the programs are ALL closed as of today. I was hoping that, perhaps, you might be able to squeeze me in ...Continue Reading
