CLARENCE DILLON PUBLIC LIBRARY

DESCRIPTION:

The Clarence Dillon Public Library in Bedminster, NJ is seeking an energetic team-oriented candidate with a strong public service commitment to lead the Children’s Library.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, parents, caregivers, and teens and have excellent interpersonal skills.  Our new Children’s Librarian needs to have a knowledge of children’s and young adult literature and be able to work with community groups and school librarians to develop and expand Children’s Services.  The Children’s Librarian will need a professional, friendly, helpful, positive attitude and is welcoming to all patrons.  This position requires the successful candidate to be able to work independently and in a collaborative environment. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • Selecting children’s books and materials
  • Planning, preparing, and presenting weekly story times for children
  • Planning, preparing, and coordinating the Library’s summer reading program
  • Plans and conducts library programs for children and young adults
  • Creating displays and bulletin boards in the Children’s Library
  • Assisting patrons with selecting reading material for children 
  • Assisting patrons with locating materials
  • Provides expert reference service to children, caregivers, educators, and the general public using the library catalog, databases, and other appropriate online resources
  • Weeding the children’s collection of old and/or outdated materials
  • Exploring initiatives for promoting early childhood literacy
  • Promoting community awareness of library resources, services, and programs
  • Working the Children’s Library circulation desk
  • Readily undertakes other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a library program accredited by the American Library Association
  • Possess or be able to obtain a New Jersey Professional Library Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience with youth in a library experience

SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday 9:30am – 5pm (37.5 hours a week)

Evening and weekend hours may be required occasionally for library programs or outreach.
