Hello all, I am writing to recommend a speaker for parents. We have had Olen Kalkus speak twice in the 5 years our “new” building has been open, and what he says has opened my eyes and changed the way I react to young people in the library. He has never charged us anything for the program but he does bring a power point presentation and would like to be able to use your computer and screen. One thing not mentioned below is that while the Princeton Academy is a boys school (grades Junior Kindergart ...Continue Reading

Hello Everyone! I have been meaning to write about a performer we have used for the past two summer programs. His name is John Miller and he owns and operates Pearl Observatory: A Travelling Science Educaton Company which focuses on dinosaurs and space. About John - he is great. He is low key with a dry sense of humor and very good with groups of kids. About his programs - last year he brought his Starlab here. It's an inflatable planetarium and the kids (and parents too!) enjoyed crawling into th ...Continue Reading

I don’t have the money to commit to a performance in March but I would like to add my recommendation – We had Jim during this summer and his show is terrific. If you have the money in your budget, get him. My audience – ranging from adults to preschoolers totaled about 90 people and everyone raved! Jim Cruise, the Spoon Man, is coming to North Jersey on Friday, March 26, 2010. He will perform in Kearny at 4:00 p.m. and in Rutherford that evening. The $900.00 fee can be shared 3 ways if another library will hire him for either Friday or Saturday. He also charges libraries $30.00 each for a motel room because he travels from Michigan. In a nutshell, Jim plays different genres of popular music and accompanies himself on his spoons. He also wears different costumes. The program is well worth the money, in my opinion. ...Continue Reading

This program sounds fun - what do they charge? PS. I think this listserv is a great resource for programs. Thanks everyone for sharing. However, I would like to see fees included in these recommendations. It will save me the time of contacting the poster again for details, and it would be easier to eliminate a program right away if it is out of my budget range. Thanks again everyone!
