If you allow guest users to make requests, they don’t have to be registered. They can just enter their requests like they did with the previous versions of JerseyCat.

You might want to check the URL you are using to link to JerseyCat. This version will have the login box open automatically and would be appropriate to bookmark on staff computers:

http://njsl-agent.auto-graphics.com/mvc?cid=njsl&lid=XXXX&reset=over

The version that you probably want to put on your website for the public to use does not cause the login box to open automatically:

http://njsl-agent.auto-graphics.com/mvc?cid=njsl&lid=XXXX&reset=force

The difference is at the end of the URL where it says reset= Use either over or force. Be sure to change the XXXX to your library’s JerseyCat code.

I also used the UX Admin to change the wording in the Login box to let patrons know that the login is only required for staff.

Does that help?

Thank you. I changed everything in Admin, but I still don't understand how the patrons will register. I tried entering myself as a "New patron" using the Admin menu, but I was unsure which User Type I would be (I only see Staff or Admin - no "Patron" profile).

  Can anyone help me?

Becky,

It most certainly helps.  Thanks so much.  The piece we were missing was the ILL permissions for Guests.  Since Thursday last week, the Request This button would appear and then disappear when the search was complete so we were baffled and apparently so was Auto-Graphics since they have yet to provide me with the answer.  I've distributed your hint to the other MAIN (Morris County) libraries.  Thanks again for sharing.

There has been a lot of discussion in the last few days on the LibraryLinkNJ forums about how to allow our patrons to enter their own requests on the new ShareIt site. There are 2 places in ShareIt that you need to make changes to enable patron requests. You must use your library’s admin username and password to make these changes

Staff menu > ILL admin > maintain participant record > show request this button, check  "Guests" and submit.

You also have to go to User Admin > Edit User Accounts. Click the Submit button without entering any search terms. This will bring up a list of the users for your library. Click on the link for Guest. Scroll down until you see a link for ILL Permissions (near the bottom). You want to check the boxes for Originate borrow requests, Originate copy requests and Patron request tracking. They should be the top 3 in the right column. Click submit and now your guest user should be able to make requests.

While you are looking at “Maintain Participant Record” you might want to check to see is “Show Blank ILL Form” is set the way you want it. Ours did not have any boxes checked so staff did not have access to the blank form. In the older versions of JerseyCat we had the blank form available to patrons also. It was kind of buried and not many patrons used it. If you make it available for Guests, there will be a tab for it right on the home page. That was a little too prominent for us, so we turned it off for patrons.

Hope this helps.
